if I thought the stars
would not mourn
the loss of heaven's light
I'd pluck one from the sky
to place inside your heart
that cannot find
its way to feel
the love I send to you

but I was never
much the thief
to take the starlight
from the night
so when you look
up to the sky
speckled as a
broken mirror
know I've named
a shard for you
and begged
that it might
take what's true

to reflect the light
I send to you
from in the twinkling
shimmered eye
pure as silver
so you might see
the intentions
of this distant heart
when all the world
appears too dark
